DLF IPL 2012 Result: Pune Warriors defeated Chennai Super Kings by 7 wickets in Match 16 at Subroto Roy Stadium, Pune

Pune Warriors clinched a thrilling win over defending Champions Chennai Super Kings at the houseful Subroto Roy Stadium in Pune. Opener Jesse Ryder produced his best in the IP with an unbeaten 73 from 56 balls with 7 fours and a six. It was a single handed effort from Ryder until Aussie Steven Smith came in and took the pressure off him in the climax with some superb shots.

Jesse RyderSteven Smith carried Pune Warriors to the 7-wicket win by hitting a boundary and a six in the first two balls of the final over. Jesse Ryder got the Man of the Match for his heroic knock of 73*. For the CSK, R Ashwin bowled well conceding just 19 off his 4 overs. MS Dhoni blundered towards the end by giving the inexperienced Yo Mahesh the final over instead of Dwayne Bravo.

There were a couple of heated moments in the game when Jesse Ryder and Marlon Samuels batting together in the middle got upset with each other for some reason! Samuels played a poor innings consuming 15 balls for his 8 and got out just after an ugly moment with Ryder. The other incident took place when Ashwin warned Steven Smith of a Mankad Run Out. What followed was some heated arguments between Ashwin and Smith.

Pune Warriors keep CSK down to 155 for 5

Chennai Super Kings have put up a competitive total of 155 for 5 against Pune Warriors on a good batting surface at the Subroto Roy Stadium. Faf du Plessis continued his good form striking 43 from 33 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes at the top of the order. Ravindra Jadeja provided the onslaught in the middle overs with 44 from 26 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. The rest of the batsmen didn’t quite get runs at a rapid rate which resulted in the Pune Warriors restricting CSK to 155 for 5.

Leggie Rahul Sharma did a fine job taking 2 for 16 in 3 overs for the Pune Warriors.

Toss and Teams: Chennai Super Kings have won the toss and elected to bat first against hosts Pune Warriors at the Subroto Roy Sahara Stadium. CSK have made two changes with Nuwan Kulasekara and Yo Mahesh replacing Doug Bollinger and Shadab Jakati. For the Pune Warriors, Murali Kartik has replaced Manish Pandey.
