A quickfire half-century by Sunny Sohal and an equally useful knock of 49 from captain Kumar Sangakkara helped Deccan Chargers register a 16-run victory over Delhi Daredevils in their Indian Premier League match here on Tuesday.
Opting to bat, Sohal (62, 41b, 8X4, 1X6) and Sangakkara (49, 35b, 8X4, 1X6) put on a 92-run stand for the second wicket to set a solid platform and post a competitive total of 168 for four, even though some disciplined bowling by the Daredevils at the end managed to put brakes on the Deccan scoring rate.
Sunny Sohal scored a superb 62 from just 41 balls to put Deccan in commanding position.
Earlier Sangakkara and Sohal put on a brisk partnership before the former fell to Dinda for brilliant 49.
The duo lead Chargers' fightback after losing opener Shikhar Dhawan early for 8 who was clean bowled by Irfan Pathan.
In an attempt to climb up the points table, Delhi Daredevils and Deccan Chargers trained guns at each other here at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground where the visiting skipper Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and decided to bat first.
Both the skippers got to do what they wanted as Sehwag said that he would have anyway fielded had he won the toss.
Though both teams have secured just one win so far in the tournament, with a game in hand, Delhi are slightly better placed than the Chargers.
As far as team news is concerned, the Daredevils welcomed back the pace of Morne Morkel who missed the last match due to injury.
