India’s T20 captain Harmanpreet Kaur created history on Saturday by becoming the first Indian woman to feature in the Women’s Big Bash League. She turned out for Sydney Thunder Woman against Melbourne Stars Women at Sydney. Kaur made a highly impressive debut smashing an unbeaten 47 from 28 balls with two fours and three sixes. She did so as Sydney were chasing 148. Unfortunately, while Kaur shone brightly on her debut, it wasn’t enough for Sydney to overcome Melbourne as they went down by six runs.
Adam Gilchrist, who was on commentary during the match, was highly pleased with Kaur’s batting, and described one of the sixes that she hit as something ‘as good a cricket shot as you will ever see’. Even the bowler at the receiving end, Gemma Triscari, found the stroke rather amazing, and started laughing as the ball sailed over the ropes.
