New Delhi: India’s new batting star Virat Kohli needs just seventy runs to reach 1000-mark in calendar year 2010. Kohli is the leading run scorer for India in ODI this year and if he reaches the milestone in rest of the ODIs against New Zealand he will surpass batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin first achieve the feat in 1994, five years after his debut in 1989, while Kohli is short of the achievement in third year of his career.

In his short span of three year, Kohli has scored 1414 runs, most of which 930, at an average of 48.94, has come in 2010. After leading India’s Under 19 team to world cup victory, Kohli made his ODI debut in 2008 against Sri Lanka. After several ups and downs, Kohli has been at his best form this year.

Kohli scored a brilliant century in the first ODI against the Kiwis in Guwahati. Though he scored a brilliant fifty in Jaipur, he missed the record of hitting three consecutive centuries. Spectators will look now forward to see him breaking Sachin’s record in Vadodra.
