South Africa Innings

The sluggish pitch at the Moses Mabhida Stadium made it extremely difficult for South Africa to chase the target of 169 and they fell way short by 21 runs. Opener Morne van Wyk was looking threatening with his big shot but when he got caught flicking Praveen Kumar to the deep mid wicket fielder, the match was almost over at 93 for 5 in the 11th over. Just an over before this, South Africa lost a couple of big wickets that of AB de Villiers (run out) and JP Duminy lbw to Yuvraj and this was the game changer. South Africa at this stage were cruising along thanks to Morne van Wyk at 87 for 2 in 9 overs.
Morne van Wyk got out having scored a breezy 67 from 39 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes. His fifty came in just 24 balls which was the fastest ever by a South African in this format. After his exit, it was a downward slide for the Proteas and the Indians controlled the game beautifully through the spin combination of Yuvraj and Yusuf. The big hits vanished for the Proteas and in the end, they were restricted to 147/9 in the allotted 20 overs. Besides these two players, Ashish Nehra too bowled well giving away only 22 in his 4 overs while also taking two wickets.
India Innings

India set up a stiff target of 169 for South Africa on a pitch that has been slow in pace and low on bounce. Rohit Sharma with 53 from 34 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes and a finishing knock from Suresh Raina who scored 41 from 23 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes lifted India to this good total after winning the toss. Virat Kohli who opened the batting also played well for his 19-ball 28 (with 5 fours) before getting cleaned up by an arm ball from the South African Skipper - Johan Botha.
