ICC Champions Trophy 2013The International Cricket Council today confirmed that England will host the 2013 Champions Trophy, nine years after they last staged the event when, as the home nation, they lost in the final to West Indies.

Australia are the current Champions Trophy holders having won the title in India last year, also beating West Indies by eight wickets in the final of a tournament reduced to eight teams and lauded for its organisation after several below-par previous editions.

The decision to hand the 2013 competition to England was made at an ICC meeting in Singapore where the governing body announced the hosts for other upcoming major tournaments.

England's defence of their World Twenty20 title will be made in Sri Lanka in two years' time. Bangladesh will then be the venue for the same event in 2014 – their first major international tournament as sole hosts.

The 2015 World Cup will be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand. It will be the first time cricket's showpiece event will be played in the Antipodes since the two nations shared hosting responsibilities in 1991, when Pakistan beat England in the final.

It was also announced that the use of the umpire review system in next year's World Cup has been provisionally approved.

The system will be in place assuming the technology is available and that agreement can be reached with host nations Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka and broadcaster ESPN Star Sports.
