Mumbai Indians have won the toss and asked the South African team - Lions to bat first in the opening match.

Lions upset Mumbai Indians in the opening game of the Champions League by beating them by 9 runs. Put to bat first, Lions had piled up 186 for 5 with opener Jonathan Vandiar top scoring with 71 from 48 balls and Neil McKenzie giving a glorious finish with an unbeaten 56 from 30 balls. For Mumbai Indians, only Lasith Malinga was impressive with the ball capturing 3 for 33 in 4 overs.

Mumbai Indians got off to a lovely start in their chase through an 83-run opening stand between Shikhar Dhawan (32 from 30 balls) and Tendulkar. But a couple of yorkers from medium pacer Shane Burger saw Mumbai Indians lose the wickets of Tendulkar (69 from 42 balls with 9 fours) and Keiron Pollard (19) at a crucial stage. JP Duminy tried to win the game on his own but got out after a 23-ball 30 and Mumbai Indians lacked the fire power to get home towards the end.
