South Africans had a good day with the ball dismissing hosts Kent for 210 in 74.2 overs at the St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury in their 3-day tour match. The Proteas ended the opening day’s play at 31 for 1 in 13 overs with Skipper Graeme Smith falling for 21.
Asked to bat first after losing the toss, Kent got off to a solid start of 81 for 1. However, the middle order collapsed to lead Kent to a modest total of 210. The chief contributors of Kent were opener DJ Bell-Drummond (42) and Mike Powell (48*). For the Proteas, Morne Morkel took 3 for 49 while leggie Imran Tahir took 4 for 31.
