PCB chairman Ehsan Mani has pulled out of the race for ICC chief, according to a Mumbai Mirror report. The development means that current BCCI President Sourav Ganguly stands a greater chance of grabbing the post in case he contests the elections.

Speaking about pulling out from the ICC chief race, Mani stated, “It is true that I will not be contesting the election. I have announced it in the media also. I was never interested. The news actually came from India. I was approached by a few to contest and I have said I am not interested."

On being asked about Ganguly's chances, the PCB chief stated that he wasn't aware of whether the former India captain was contesting or not. “Not to my knowledge. I do not know if he is contesting. My stint with the ICC is over after I left it in 2006. And when I stood in the ICC election, I was elected unopposed. No one stood against me," Mani added.

Mani further said that his interest in the ICC would only be thorough PCB. "I was called by Prime Minister Imran Khan and I am working for the interest of Pakistan cricket,” he reiterated. Meanwhile, the BCCI is yet to clarify whether Ganguly will be contesting the ICC elections.

Mani also added that he doesn't see a great chance of the ICC T20 World Cup being held in Australia later this year. "We have had a lot of discussions and the feeling is it would not be possible this year. ICC has World Cups lined up in 2021 and 2023, so we have a gap year where we can adjust this event," Mani told the media.

"God forbid if some player(s) falls ill or mishap occurs during the tournament, it will have a big impact and create panic in the cricket world and we can't take that risk," he explained.
