Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar produced magic spells for India on Day 3 to have England on the mat at 352 for 9 on a placid Trent Bridge pitch. Ishant started the demolition job by taking three wickets in an inspired spell after lunch. Bhuvneshwar Kumar who looked ordinary most of the time suddenly got the ball talking to capture four wickets.

India somehow failed to deliver the finishing blow before stumps and had to come across two stubborn lower order partnerships which were anchored by Joe Root (78 not out from 158 balls). For the 8th wicket, Root added 78 runs with the attacking Stuart Broad who contributed 47 from 42 balls.

Root has so far added 54 runs for the unbroken last wicket stand with James Anderson (23*) to eat through the possible Indian lead. England are trailing by just 105 runs which may not be a sizeable lead for the Indians.

Update at Lunch on Day 3: England’s young batting pair of opener Sam Robson and Gary Balance saw through the morning session safely to keep India wicketless for 31 overs. The match is heading nowhere with England moving to 131 for 1 with Robson on 59* and Balance on 59.

Both batsmen have been patient and not quite taking the game forward. There was just the one chance for India this morning when Virat Kohli put down a tough low catch off Sam Robson in Jadeja’s bowling.

It was only towards the end of the session that the bowlers, especially Stuart Binny and Ravindra Jadeja looked threatening with the ball reversing for the former and taking turn for the latter.
