Less than a year after he made his Test debut, despite being on the wrong side of 30s, Adam Voges has taken world cricket by storm. After 14 Tests, Voges has already amassed 1267 runs at a spectacular average of 97.67, more than even Don Bradman had at the same stage. He has five hundreds and three fifties to his name. Here’s a look at his short, but spectacular career so far.

Voges made his debut against West Indies at Roseau in June last year. He made a hundred in his very first Test appearance, scoring an unbeaten 130, as Australia won by nine wickets. In his second Test against the same opponent, he scored a fluent 37. Australia went on to win that Test as well by 277 runs. Voges got a reality check in the Ashes that was played in England. He managed only 31 and 1 at Cardiff, 25 at Lord’s, and 16 and 0 at Birmingham. Voges was under pressure for his place going into Nottingham. He was dismissed for 1 in the first innings, but rescued his career to an extent by remaining unbeaten on 51 in the second innings.

In the final Test at The Oval, he scored an impressive 76 as the Aussies registered a comprehensive innings victory, and reduced the margin of defeat to 2-3. Having come back strongly, Voges continued his impressive run in the home series against the New Zealanders as well. He made an unbeaten 83 in the first Test at Brisbane, as Australia won by an impressive 208-run margin. In the second Test at Perth, he registered 41 and 119, in a high-scoring draw. In a rare failure at Adelaide, he managed only 13 and 28, but Australia still won by three wickets.

When Australia hosted West Indies at home, Voges again feasted on his favourite opponent. He smashed an unbeaten 269 at Hobart in December 2015. Voges batted for 410 minutes and hit 33 fours. Australia went on win by an innings and 212 runs. In the second Test at Melbourne, he came up with another hundred, albeit a smaller one this time. He made an unbeaten 106 from 201 minutes with 12 fours. Australia again went on to win easily, by 177 runs. Voges finished the series unbeaten, and was rightly adjudged the man of the series.

Voges’ latest innings was also a marathon one. He smashed a splendid 239 against New Zealand in the recently concluded Test at Wellington, with 30 fours and three sixes, which was Brendon McCullum’s 100th Test. Things did not go according to plan for the Kiwi skipper as Australia went on to win the Test by an innings and 52 runs. Voges was again the man of the match with his brilliant double hundred. It remains to be seen whether he can spoil McCullum’s farewell.
