Mike Hesson is New Zealand’s new Coach

New Zealand Cricket today have named 37-year-old Mike Hesson as the Head Coach of its National Team. Hesson, who is a Kiwi himself takes over the duties from John Wright.

New Zealand Cricket today have named 37-year-old Mike Hesson as the Head Coach of its National Team. Hesson, who is a Kiwi himself takes over the duties from John Wright. The 37-year-old Hesson was the head coach of Kenya for a period of 10 months. He was also the Coach of Otago, the New Zealand domestic team for six years.

The NZ Cricket Board has given a contract till the end of the 2015 World Cup and his first assignment will be New Zealand’s Tour of India in late August this year.

Mike HessonTalking about Hesson’s appointment, NZC Director of Cricket, John Buchanan is quoted according to the Board’s official website as ““We were impressed with the way Mike presented himself and he was the stand-out applicantfrom a strong field of candidates.

“Mike has been a successful First-Class coach with the Otago teamin recent years and has also had valuable experience working with New Zealand A sides. He also spent some time assisting the BLACKCAPS coaching staff during the 2010 Chappell/Hadlee Series and we’re fortunate to have secured his services for the national team.

“Mike’s impressive career path also includes the SportNZ Elite Coach Accelerator Programme where he not only had the honour of being selected for the programme, but finished as one of the highly commended participants.

“He will bring a freshness and new energy to the side and we know he is more than capable of developing and growing the team as we work towards the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.”
