Apart from centuries from opener Rob Quiney and no.3 Peter Handscomb, the rest of the batsmen failed to come up with anything significant for Victoria on Day 1 of their 4-day Sheffield Shield Match against South Australia. At the Adelaide Oval, Victoria finished at 344 for 7 in 96 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat first.

Rob Quiney scored 114 from just 145 balls with 14 fours and 3 sixes. Handscomb scored 113 from 180 balls with 15 fours while putting up 225 runs for the second wicket with Rob Quiney.

Rob QuineyTall seamer Peter George was the most successful bowler for South Australia taking 3 for 59 in 23 overs. Jake Haberfield picked up a couple of wickets but was on the expensive side going for 104 in 24 overs.
