West Indies suffered a humiliating defeat at the WACA Ground in Perth today against Australia in the opening ODI. Batting first after winning the toss, West Indies collapsed to 70 all out with their innings lasting just the 23.5 overs! Mitchell Starc ran through their batting line-up taking 5 for 20 in 6.5 overs. Clint McKay took 3 for 10 in 7 overs while debutant James Faulkner took 2 for 14.
For the West Indies, just the three batsmen got into double figures with the top scorer being Skipper Darren Sammy with 16 to his name. Australia with a new opening combination in Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch raced away to the target in just 9.2 overs to make a complete mockery of the contest. While Finch failed to get going, Maxwell made of his opportunity scoring 51* from just 35 balls with 9 fours and 2 sixes in a 9-wicket win for the hosts.
