Delhi Daredevils defeated Rajasthan Royals by 1 run in Match 39 at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi, DLF IPL 2012

Hosts Delhi Daredevils pulled off an incredible 1-run win over Rajasthan Royals in Match 39 at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. Needing a modest target of 153 to overhaul, Rajasthan Royals were cruising along at 138 for 1 in 18 overs with just another 15 runs to get from 12 balls! However, the Royals royally messed it up in the penultimate over bowled by Morne Morkel in which just the three runs were scored!

The final over which was bowled by Umesh Yadav left Rajasthan Royals needing 12 to get with a well set Ajinkya Rahane at the crease with the dangerous Owais Shah. Rahane struck the fourth ball of the over for a six and then got two runs in the next ball to reduce the equation to two runs from the final ball. Rahane failed to connect his shot and in an attempted bye, his partner Owais Shah got run out which prevented the super over.

Virender Sehwag got the Man of the Match awardAjinkya Rahane remained helpless with an unbeaten 84 from 63 balls with 9 fours and a six. He had a solid opening stand of 99 runs for the first wicket with Rahul Dravid (40 from 38 balls with 5 fours) in 13.5 overs.

Early on, Delhi Daredevils winning the toss and batting first were restricted to 152 for 6 despite a rocking innings of 63 from 39 balls (with 8 fours and 2 sixes) from Skipper Virender Sehwag. The rest of the batsmen failed to come good to leave Daredevils towards a modest total only. Sehwag got the Man of the Match award for his entertaining knock.
