It were the much-vaunted Indian batsmen that had to deliver if India wanted to do well against Pakistan. In complete contrast, they did miserably and the Indians expectedly went down in yet another high-profile series.
Sunday was yet another occasion in the last year when India’s famed batting line up came a cropper. In the ongoing series against Pakistan, none of the top and middle-order batsmen have looked comfortable against either pace or spin.
India clinched a low scoring thriller at Delhi to avoid an embarrassing cleansweep against their arch rivals. Needing just 168 to win, Pakistan stuttered big time to lose the Third and Final ODI by 10 runs.
The series against Pakistan went out of India’s grasp even before one could get the hang of the TV commercial for the series, in which senior Indian players are pronouncing with fierce determination – ‘aane do’ (bring on the Pakistanis!). If only they had shown such determination on the cricket field.
The New Year did not bring a change of fortune for Team India, as they plunged to another low, losing the second ODI to Pakistan at Eden Gardens, Kolkata by a massive margin and, with it, the three-match as well.
