Defending IPL Champions Kolkata Knight Riders pulled off a terrific 3-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in the opening match of CLT20 2014. Chasing 158, KKR were in the dumps at 51 for 5 in 9 overs before Andre Russell and Ryan ten Doeschate got together and launched a blistering counter attack.

Andre Russell was on a rampage scoring 58 from just 25 balls hitting 4 fours and 5 sixes to bring KKR strongly back in the game. It was Ryan ten Doeschate who held his nerve and took KKR past the finishing line with an unbeaten 51 from 41 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes.

CSK had started off brilliantly with the ball with left-armer Ashish Nehra swinging the ball beautifully to take 4 for 21. However, there wasn’t any decent bowling in the death overs from CSK to stop all the big hitting.

Early on Chennai Super Kings were off to a racy start of 37 in 4 overs from Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum. But the introduction of spin from Gautam Gambhir changed things and pulled down the run rate drastically. CSK in the meanwhile slipped to 86 for 4 in 12.3 overs.

Dwayne Bravo with 28 not out from 28 balls and Skipper MS Dhoni with 35 not out from 20 balls produced the fightback for CSK. In the end, CSK finished with a good total of 157 for 4. For KKR, Sunil Narine was outstanding with figures of 4-0-9-1. Leggie Piyush Chawla who got the big wicket of Dwayne Smith got 2 for 26 in his 4 overs.
